Abta’s Travelife sustainability awards have been incorporated into gazetteers.com, the online directory for agents.
Travelife Awards are displayed against certified properties, signifying that the hotels or apartments have gone through a rigorous environmental and social audit. Pop-up boxes give explanations for the gold, silver and bronze awards.
The system is gaining international recognition. The European Parliament is expected to put its support for Travelife on record in a vote next week.
Abta head of destinations and sustainability Nikki White said: “We are delighted that a key selling tool for agents is highlighting properties that have won Travelife awards.
“Travelife has become the international certification scheme of choice for hotels and tour operators. It helps the supply chain understand how well they are managing environmental impacts and how well they look after their staff and local communities.
“This is a great move to help consumers make sustainable choices.”
Duncan Horton, chief executive of gazetteers.com, part of the Travel Weekly Group, said: “We could not be happier to have the Travelife awards integrated into gazetteers.com. Users can identify hotels certified by Europe’s leading sustainability programme.
“It’s an enhancement that confirms gazetteers.com as an essential sales tool for agents.”
