A new service between Heathrow and Boston has been added to Delta Air Lines’ UK schedule from September as the carrier brings back more transatlantic flights for winter and next summer.
Delta said it would focus on its ‘core markets’ as it announced 50 long haul routes from the US for summer 2021.
It also stressed its schedule remains subject to change “due to the evolving nature of Covid-19, customer demand, government travel regulations and federal health guidelines”.
The UK Foreign Office currently advises against all but essential travel to the US.
Delta said its new service between Heathrow and Boston is due to run five times a week from September. The carrier already flies from Heathrow to Atlanta and New York-JFK, and both routes will run daily this winter.
In October, Delta will add a service from New York-JFK to Dublin, Ireland.
By next summer, the airline plans daily services to Heathrow from Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, New York-JFK and Minneapolis.
The airline said: “Delta remains committed to ensuring customers benefit from easy access across the pond through its key coastal gateways in Atlanta, Boston and New York-JFK.
“By next summer, customers traveling through JFK will have direct access to six more seasonal destinations popular with leisure travellers.”
Joe Esposito, senior vice president of network planning, said: “While significant hurdles remain in the global fight against the pandemic, we are ready to connect customers to the people, places, opportunities and experiences they’re longing for.
“Customers flying internationally can look forward to a modernized fleet featuring our latest cabin products and a travel experience that prioritizes their health and the health of our employees from check-in to baggage claim.”
Delta has introduced new health and safety protocols since Covid-19, such as sanitising all aircraft using HEPA filters which it says extract more than 99.99% of particles, including viruses, making face masks compulsory and blocking all middles seats and limiting the number of customers per flight through to January 6, 2021.
It has waived the fee to change flights when purchased up to September 30, 2020.
