Rock Insurance extends cover for countries under FCDO advisories

Rock Insurance has introduced insurance cover for British travellers who choose to travel to European destinations against Foreign Office advice issued due to Covid-19.

The company announced the move after the removal of Turkey and Poland from the UK’s travel corridors list left only six destinations open without quarantine on return or restrictions on arrival.

The updated policies allow consumers to travel against FCDO advice when it relates to Covid-19 – but not for other reasons.

Rock said it was planning to extend the cover to include non-European countries, and said it was the only insurance supplier to offer the cover including Covid-19 issues pre-departure.

Antony Martin, managing director, said: “If customers are still keen to travel to countries against FCDO advice, we encourage the travel trade to ask them to check that they are covered by their travel insurance policy.

“Currently, RockInsurance is the only brand to simultaneously provide cover against FCDO advice to European countries (for single trip policies) and protection against Covid-related issues both pre-departure and during their trip.

“Customers who have taken out standard travel insurance with another brand which does not specify that it includes cover for travel against FCDO advice will make their travel insurance invalid if they travel to a destination that is not on the travel corridors list.

“In the event that someone needs to change their holiday dates or their flights are cancelled, the travel company should refund or change the date.”

Martin added: “Our policy does not cover the 14-day quarantine imposed by the UK government, but we would change the policy to another date free of charge or provide a refund if booked within 14 days.”
