Four new routes are being launched by Jet2.com from Newcastle as part of expansion plans which will see a sixth aircraft based at the airport.
Flights to Bodrum, Rome, Reus and Venice will start from May 31 next year with fares leading in at £34.99 one way.
The low-cost carrier aims to attract an additional 80,000 passengers through the North East airport by taking its annual capacity up to 600,000 seats. There will also be extra frequencies to destinations such as Faro, Menorca, Malaga, Cork, Prague and Krakow.
The expansion will see the airline serve 27 destinations from Newcastle next summer, creating more than 100 jobs. Packages through Jet2holidays to the new destinations will be available with prices starting at £329.
The airline’s managing director Ian Doubtfire said: “We have been closely monitoring the success of this airport over the past year and we believe there’s real potential for this region.
“The people of the North East have genuinely embraced Jet2.com and we see exciting horizons for our organisation right here. That’s why, contrary to many other operators at the moment, we have decided to invest for the coming year and really focus and plan for a strong future in the region.
“In these tough economic times we are delighted to be creating more job opportunities for local people.
“Our partnership with Newcastle College to deliver first-class training to our growing team of cabin crew across all our bases, further demonstrates our commitment to the local economy.”
