BRITISH Airways is up to its old tricks again and is doing its level best to entice clients away from their agent and onto its direct mailing list.
I recently had four clients who wished to make a week’s booking from the Club Golf brochure, the total cost of which was £2,804. Just as Iwas finalising the booking the Club Golf operator said: “Oh, by the way, your commission is £35 per couple.” As the clients were sitting in front of me there was little Icould do.
To add insult to this paltry commission the clients are then encouraged to enrol in a loyalty scheme which gives them a free annual subscription to Golf World and three free golf balls.
To enrol they have of course to give their name and address!
While I was unable to alter the course of this booking, I shall make sure Iam not put in this position again.
Does British Airways really honestly expect us to rack and promote this brochure for a derisory 2.5% commission? We, for one, will certainly not be doing so.
