Tenerife visitor numbers up 10%

Visitor numbers to Tenerife increased by more than 10% last year.

The latest figures from the Tenerife Tourism Corporation shows that 1,658,315 UK holidaymakers visited the destination in 2011, up 10.6% from 2010.

Of these visitors, 14% more stayed in hotels and the biggest spike in numbers was in September, when there were 34% more visitors year on year.

There has also been a 6.3% in visitors over the winter.

Pia Louw, travel trade industry director at the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, said: “We’re extremely pleased to see a come-back in British tourists, which demonstrates confidence is gradually being restored. Nonetheless, in such uncertain conditions and in such a highly competitive environment, we will continue to work hard to maintain our position as a top holiday choice for UK visitors, which represent our most important source market.”

The Corporation’s new tourism promotion strategy involves more more online promotion and a bigger presence in social media.
