Orlando International Airport has reported a 3% decrease in passenger numbers in July although the number of international travellers was up.
The airport blamed a reduction in seat capacity by a number of airlines and more domestic frugal business travellers opting to drive on trips of 500 miles or less for the overall drop in numbers.
Domestic traffic was down 3.77% in the month to 2.82 million while international traffic rose 3.59% to 348,813.
Overall traffic stood at 3.17 million, down by 95,000 on the same month last year – the equivalent of less than one day of July traffic.
Year to date the airport has seen traffic up nearly 11%, up on last year’s record numbers.
July is traditionally one of the busiest months of the year for Orlando and the airport described traffic figures for the year to date as “steady”.
