Celebrity cancels Galapagos cruise after licence suspended

Celebrity Cruises has cancelled a third sailing after having Celebrity Xpedition’s Galapagos National Park licence suspended.

The local authority suspended Xpedition over 26 pounds of frozen lobster tails which were on board out of season.

The line had already cancelled sailings on June 2 and June 9, but has now announced its sailing on June 16 has been cancelled too.

Celebrity said all guests would receive a full refund, with 25% cruise credit for another Celebrity Xpedition cruise – based on the amount they paid for their June 16 sailing.  Air travel purchased through Celebrity will also be refunded, and guests who did not purchase their flights through Celebrity will be reimbursed for their airline change fee.

The line said they were engaged in dialogue with the Galapagos National Park and would provide guests with new information.

Adding: “Celebrity Cruises is truly sorry for this disruption of our guests’ vacation. We understand their excitement and anticipation for exploring the Galapagos onboard Celebrity Xpedition.

“Celebrity Cruises is committed to complying with the rules and regulations of the Galapagos, which are designed to protect and safeguard this unique and pristine environment.”

The future cruise certificates are to be sent to the home addresses of guests or to their travel agents within the next two or three weeks.

The line is contacting all guests booked on Sunday’s sailing.
