Flybe reported to be shutting six bases

Flybe plans to shut six bases as part of its latest cost-cutting plan.

Bases at Aberdeen, Guernsey, Inverness, Isle of Man, Jersey and Newcastle are due to close as the airline looks to save £85 million over the next few years, the BBC reported.

The company also released details of the proposed redundancies it announced a week ago.

Exeter, where the airline is based, faces the biggest hit, with 116 proposed redundancies, while Belfast City faces 52 job losses.

Flybe said it would be cutting its workforce by 500, despite returning to profit.

The carrier cut 490 jobs in 2012-13, with a further 100 going in the first half of 2013-14. It now employs 2,700 people.
