Drugs link to British tourist murder in New Delhi

The murder of a British tourist whose body was found dumped in a rolled up carpet in New Delhi is being treated as drug-related.

The 40-year-old man had a British passport in his pocket which police said bore the name Andrew Raymond Rodick.

He is understood to have been in India for two months on a tourist visit which included stays in Mumbai, Goa and New Delhi.

His body was found at the weekend dumped in Bhogal Market in south Delhi.

The Nizamuddin area where the body was found is home to a Sufi shrine popular with tourists.

One of the detectives investigating the case told The Telegraph they were treating the case as potentially drug-related.

“Since the area is popular with many nationalities including some drug peddlers from Africa, we are investigating all angles including robbery and drug abuse,” he said.

“We haven’t got any clues yet but it seems there is more than one involved in the murder. We are trying to track his movements in India and people who were in touch with him. We hope to get a breakthrough soon.”
