I received the ABTAConvention brochure this week and feel moved to write and say what a great job has been done by all those involved.
Its distribution may well start the next round of speculation and possibly moaning about whether it will be a success, whether it’s too costly to go and whether it’s too far to go. So may I get in early with my own personal views.
The ABTA Convention is without doubt the most prestigious and wide-ranging travel industry event on the calendar. Of course, it will be a success.
Too many people in our industry expect to pay little or nothing for their own travel. The majority in the industry know a bargain. The prices for pre and post convention tours, the accommodation rates and the air fares are all bargains. If in doubt ask someone’s opinion at the pub tonight – someone who is not in travel! Yes, Australia is a long way to go, but aren’t we in the travel industry?
Cairns will be my 10th Convention since 1983 and without doubt the best to date was the Gold Coast. Apart from the spectacular country and the great hosts, there was a quality of spirit with the conventioneers that made the effort to be there. I’m looking forward to it being the same this year.
