Air Canada increases leg room with Preferred Seats

Star Alliance carrier Air Canada has reconfigured floor space on some of its aircraft to introduce more premium economy seats.

The airline’s Preferred Seats provide 35 inches of legroom compared to between 31 and 33 inches on standard economy seats.

On its 97-seat Embraer 190 fleet the number of bigger seats has increased from to 24 from eight.

On the 146-seat Airbus A320 aircraft the number has risen to 36 from 16.

The carrier said by the end of August it would expand its kiosk and mobile functions for booking Preferred Seats up until time of boarding.

Vice president of marketing, Craig Landry, said: “We have reconfigured our narrow-body aircraft with more Preferred Seats, which provide up to an additional four inches of legroom, and are making it easier for customers to conveniently purchase these seats when booking or at any time prior to boarding, including through our website, our airport kiosks or mobile devices.”

Landry said most Preferred Seats were located near the front of aircraft, making it easier and quicker for those customers to disembark.
