THE POLISH government has created a central body to promote tourism and oversee the operation of tourist offices abroad.
The Polish Tourism Organisation will take over the tourism responsibilities of Poland’s State Sports and Tourism Administration from January 1 2000.
Previously, the Polish government contributed almost all of the funding for tourism promotion, but the new PTO will try to attract half its budget from sources such as the European Union and the privatesector.
A spokesman for the Polish National Tourist Office in London said the aim of the restructure was to streamline procedures and make tourist information more widelyavailable.
