British Airways and Iberia reach partial agreement with eDreams over fares

British Airways and Iberia have reinstated their fares on the French and Spanish websites of eDreams following a dispute over what is included in the prices displayed.

On Friday shares in Spanish online travel agency group eDreams Odigeo were suspended after dropping 59% following an announcement by the two airlines that they would no longer allow it to promote their fares on three of its sites.

Reuters reported on Saturday that the carriers had returned their fares to eDreams.es in Spain and Opodo.fr in France, but talks over price listings on eDreams.com were ongoing.

The report suggests the airlines would return to the latter when Odigeo confirmed that pages comply with European regulation.

Weekend reports suggested the parent of eDreams and Opodo suffered significant losses after the move by BA parent IAG, which claimed Odigeo had breached transparency rules over showing ticket prices to customers.

However, a statement from the OTA said that fares not being present on one site affected less than 0.2% of all eDreams Odigeo bookings and there had been “no impact of its trading volume” or service delivery to consumers.

A joint statement from the airlines on Saturday said: “After the measures adopted by Odigeo to adjust their Spanish and French pages so that the final ticket price, including all obligatory charges for the client, are shown from the beginning of the reservation, all the Iberia and British Airways flights are once again available for sale on these sites.”

EDreams said it strongly believed BA and Iberia’s actions were not about “any form of non-compliance with the law”, but instead “about non-compliance with the terms that BA and Iberia want to impose on travel agents” which the OTA believes would reduce consumer choice and access to better prices.

The OTA’s operations chief Dana Dunne told City AM they were considering legal action/

She said: “We’ve gone to the UK competition authorities and we’re assessing other actions in a legal and regulatory manner as well.”
