New aircraft help EasyJetto lift services

EASYJET is to increase frequencies and destinations this summer following the delivery of new aircraft.

By November the low-cost carrier will have increased its fleet to 18 Boeing 737s from a current 12.

Starting on July 1, EasyJet increases Luton flights to Barcelona to four daily from three a day and to three daily on weekends to Belfast International from double daily.

Geneva services from Luton increase to thrice daily from two a day on July 28.

New thrice-daily services to Belfast and a daily flight to Malaga from Liverpool start on July 15. The new aircraft will also allow EasyJet to launch operations to Nice, Barcelona and Amsterdam from its new Geneva hub at the end of next month.

By the end of 1999, Belfast and Nice will be the airline’s most frequently served destinations with seven daily services from UK airports.

EasyJet said more route development is planned from July 2000 when 15 new Boeing 737s start to join its fleet.

The carrier also has options for another 15 jets to further improve its network.

The improvements come as EasyJet faces stiff competition for passengers from Go.
