Passengers using Liverpool John Lennon airport face reduced food and drink options as work starts on new and improved outlets in time for next summer.
Construction is taking place in the departure lounge throughout the winter to build a range of new, expanded and refurbished passenger facilities over the coming months.
These include an all-day diner with seating for almost 190 passengers, an expanded premium lounge twice the size of the existing facility and an extension and upgraded design to an existing pub and kitchen.
A third coffee shop will be introduced and the established Starbucks and Upper Crust units will be updated, with new brands joining the retail mix to cater for growing passenger numbers.
Airport chief executive John Irving said: “Whilst we appreciate there will be disruption over the winter period with reduced choice, this is about planning for next summer and beyond with units like Monty’s improving the offer for the longer term.”
The latest improvements are the next phase of work that started last winter following the signing of a new long-term deal with airport and railway station catering firm SSP and which will see operations at Liverpool extended until at least 2036.
SSP UK and Ireland chief executive Kari Daniels said: “We always strive to offer bespoke concepts for our customers alongside some of our more established names.
“This was the catalyst for Monty’s Diner – it’s a completely new concept for us but one that we’re confident will bring a fresh, modern experience to Liverpool John Lennon airport, complementing our existing outlets.”
