Madeira flights warning over ‘stormy conditions’

Passengers flying to and from Madeira have been warned by Jet2 of possible flight disruption due to “stormy conditions”.

The alert came amid reports that 17 flights by a number of airlines to and from the island’s international airport were cancelled on Sunday as a result of strong winds.

Others were diverted from Funchal to Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

A number of today’s departures and arrivals face delays, according to the airport website.

Jet2 said: “The Met Office has warned that the stormy conditions are due to continue in Madeira at times for the coming days.

“If you are travelling with Jet2.com we plan to operate our flights as close to schedule as possible, however, there may be some disruption should the weather deteriorate.”

The company said in a statement on its website: “Our operations team continue to monitor the Madeira forecast to ensure we have the most up to date information for all Jet2.com departing and arriving customers on Sunday 22nd December 2024 and Monday 23rd December 2024.

“We will, where possible, board all flights for an on-time departure, however, please be prepared for a longer than normal wait either in the terminal or onboard the aircraft to depart.

“If your flight is disrupted, we will be in contact with you direct via SMS and email and post regular updates on this page of the Jet2.com website.”
