Singapore Airlines aircraft collapses on tarmac at Changi airport

A Singapore Airlines jet has collapsed on to the tarmac at Singapore’s Changi Airport.

The Airbus A330-300 was undergoing a landing gear check when the incident occurred, according to reports.

The incident happened on Sunday before it was due to depart for Hong Kong. A different aircraft was used instead following the incident.

In a statement the airline said: “Maintenance work was being carried out to rectify a defect, and the gear retracted during the subsequent system check.

“There were no passengers or crew on board at the time. One engineer who was on the aircraft was not injured.

“Singapore Airlines will be cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigations.”

Details of the damage caused to the aircraft weren’t available.

Pictures of the incident were shared on social media, showing the aircraft nose down on the tarmac.
