Miles Morgan’s Gloucester store will be its largest yet

Miles Morgan Travel’s 15th store is set to open in a former coffee shop in the centre of Gloucester and become the miniple’s highest-turnover branch.

The travel agency chain will open the store on December 12 at a shop previously occupied by a Starbucks in East Gate Street, near to three other agencies: Thomson, Thomas Cook and Co-operative Travel, part of The Midcounties Co-operative.

Joe Teixeira, former manager of the Midcounties store, will join as manager at the end of January, while a further four staff are being sought for the new branch.

There will be a total of 10 staff in full and part-time roles.

Owner Miles Morgan said the store was likely to become the biggest in the agency chain in turnover terms, overtaking its Bath shop. It will feature 10 desks, more than any other Miles Morgan Travel branch.

Morgan said: “It will probably be bigger than Bath going forward in turnover. It’s right in the middle of our patch and because of that we will be a well-known name.

“Our experience of opening in [formerly non-travel] shops has been great; the performance of our most recent store in Cirencester has been nothing short of sensational.”

Morgan said there were plans to open further agencies over the next “couple of years”, but said the miniple was unlikely to grow to more than 20 shops.

“I don’t want a large impersonal business,” he added.
