IF THERE’S something in nature that the Americans think they can better, they will.
Take for instance, the new – and unique – slant on aqua-tourism in the Florida Keys.
Backchat can reveal that an Underwater Music Festival is taking place in Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary, Lower Florida Keys on July 10.
Who would have thought you could improve on the novel experience of being underwater, enjoying completely foreign surroundings and stimulus?
Obviously you’ve never thought, ‘hey, what if I stuck in some women dressed as mermaids and … oh yeah, a school of Elvis’.
Luckily the Florida Keys and Key West have been struck by that insight and have taken care of it for you. The festival consists of 6hrs of music broadcast below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean to an audience of around 600 snorkellers and divers.
The funny thing about this annual event is that it is designed to reinforce the importance of preserving the coral reef and increasing diver awareness on how to protect the only living coral reef in the US.
There’s logic there somewhere.
