It’s no surprise commission incentive fell on deaf ears

I WAS surprised to read that Fiona Morgan of Millennium and Copthorne Hotels could not drum up any interest for 19.99% commission (Travel Weekly March 1).

Perhaps she should have spoken to business travel agent Colin Brain and Travel Weekly business travel reporter Beverley Fearis first.

If agents are moving to management fees and rebating the commission to the corporate account, who cares about how much commission is paid? In killing commission did someone kill the goose that lays the golden egg?

Fiona Morgan also surprised me by suggesting that agents were not bothering to claim higher commissions. Why should agents have to claim the commission?

If we make the booking and put our clients into her hotels surely the onus is on the hotel chain to pay the commission.
