Singapore Airlines bids to strengthen position with new stopover programme

Singapore Airlines has launched a new stopover holiday programme aimed at strengthening Singapore’s position as a gateway to southeast Asia.

The New Singapore Stopover packages combine hotel accommodation, return airport transfers, free admission to six popular tourist attractions and discounted shopping, dining, entertainment, sightseeing tours and car hire.

Prices start at ú18 per person for the first night, rising to ú20 per person for each extra night. The packages are available until the end of March next year.

The New Singapore Stopover packages offer stays at a choice of 24 Singapore hotels including the Marriott, the Oriental, the Hilton, the Carlton and the Excelsior. Singapore Airlines has invested $8.5m in the new stopover programme and aims to attract 250,000 stopover travellers from around the world to Singapore between now and March 31 2000.

The airline’s deputy chairman and chief executive officer Cheong Choong Kong said: “This package reinforces the appeal of Singapore as a premier tourist destination in its own right and also as a springboard to the region.” The NSS packages can be booked through the airline or its subsidiary SilkAir.
