Shearings goes early with New Year bookings

SHEARINGS has launched its 1999 Christmas and millennium New Year breaks programme following strong early demand.

The coach operator, which normally launches the programme around Easter, said it had already sold 65% of its New Year capacity. Customers taking New Year breaks last year were given the chance to rebook for the millennium.

Prices for the seasonal four-day breaks have risen by between 10%-12%, taking an average holiday up from ú225 to ú250. Chief executive John Slatcher said this was because of the increased cost of entertainment and staff wages over the millennium.

“Our pricing policy for the millennium is fair in that we have only increased prices in line with the increased costs of operating over this period, a policy we know our customers will appreciate. We want them to come back with us in 2000 and beyond and we are convinced our actions will benefit us and in the long term.”
