Agents’ weary of battling to retrieve hotel commission

ONCE again we are out of pocket trying to retrieve commission owed to us by a British hotel company.

Why do they make it so difficult?

We booked clients in good faith to Forte Battersea Travelodge through central reservations on May 15 1998.

We were told at the time of booking we would receive 8% commission and the clients had to pay direct by credit card.

Nine months later and we are still waiting for commission despite countless telephone calls, an invoice raised, letters sent and more telephone calls.

If Forte is happy to take bookings from travel agents, why not make it simple? We give an ABTA number, it pays us commission – is this really difficult?

Perhaps the hotel concerned hopes that we will give up chasing our commission so it can keep it!

This has now become a point of principle to get what is owed to us to help pay for our telephone calls.

Forte is not alone in making it extremely difficult to retrieve any commission owed.
