GOING Places has failed to win approval to build its first holiday superstore in Manchester.
The travel agency wanted to build a 10,000 sq ft superstore on a site at Trafford Retail Park just next door to the new Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester and put in a planning application at the end of last year.
But Trafford Council turned down the request, claiming another travel agency was not required in that area, that it would adversely affect business in the town centre and that it would also increase traffic flows to the area.
Going Places deputy managing director Paul Evans said he was forging ahead with alternative plans.
“We are not overly concerned about this and we aren’t putting in another application because we think it has run its course,” said Evans.
“We are due to have a regular shop opening in the Trafford Centre proper in the middle of February anyway so we have a presence there.”
He said the news would not deter the company from its plans for expansion and stressed Going Places was committed to superstores elsewhere.
