Early launch for Malaysia’s new Kuala Lumpur service

MALAYSIA Airlines has brought forward the launch of its Manchester-Kuala Lumpur service from summer (Travel Weekly November 4 1998).

The flight was due to start in June, but will now begin on March 30 for the start of the summer season.

UK sales manager John Cushion said the carrier had secured the Manchester and Kuala Lumpur slots necessary to bring the service start date forward. “We have been working on the slots. It makes sense to start the flight for the summer schedules,” said Cushion.

The service was due to start as a thrice-weekly operation, but will now be launched as a twice-weekly flight on Tuesdays and Sundays. Cushion said frequency will rise to the intended start level in July.

The Boeing 777 flights will be routed through Munich. Timings in Kuala Lumpur will allow connections onto Malaysia’s Far East network.

The carrier said Manchester was chosen to complement double-daily Heathrow-Kuala Lumpur flights because of the high number of Malaysian students based in the Northwest.
