THE F-AIR Passenger Duty Alliance is sending out letters to 1,000 MPs, peers, and government officials to explain the industry’s concerns about the tax.
An FPDA spokesman said it was also drawing up a sample letter to Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, which attempts to persuade him not to increase APD in this year’s budget. The group plans to use the draft submission as the basis of a letter-writing campaign.
A campaign spokesman said it also planned to make APD an issue during elections to the Scottish parliament. “It is such a big issue in Scotland, because it affects all the regional flights there,” he explained.
At present, the Scottish National Party is the only political party that openly backs the FPDA.
Current APD rates are ú10 on domestic and European flights, and ú20 on flights outside the European Union.
