Yorkshire survey shows rise in tourism spend

ASURVEY of visitors who used the Yorkshire Tourist Board’s 1998 guide shows their total spend on trips to the region was ú74.2m – up from ú67.2m the previous year.

Spending on accommodation listed in the Holidays and Short Breaks Guide rose from ú15.4m in 1997 to ú21.5m last year.

YTBchief executive David Andrews said the annual guide had been targeted at high-spending tourists for the first time in 1998.

The results of the survey showed this strategy had paid off, he claimed.

Other findings include that average spend on a holiday in Yorkshire was ú546; the average number of nights stayed was six; and July was the most popular month for a trip.
