Malaysia Airlines embarks on incentive drive for new Kuala Lumpur service

MALAYSIA Airlines is to target agents in Manchester with incentives to promote its new Kuala Lumpur service from the city (Travel Weekly January 13).

The twice weekly flight starts on March 30, rising to three times a week in July. UK sales manager John Cushion said: “There will be special offers in the market for agents and promotions for the public.”

He said plans were being drawn up to fly agents out to Kuala Lumpur, so they can fly back to Manchester on the inaugural flight.

In a separate push for the new service, the airline is inviting Malaysia’s tourism and hotel delegates, attending next month’s ITB exhibition in Berlin, to Manchester for a day’s travel fair.

Cushion said the mini-market, to be held in a central Manchester hotel, will take place on March 12 or 13. The airline also flies double daily from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur.

Cushion said this service, which is a codeshare operation with Virgin Atlantic, was experiencing reasonable loads despite the Asian economy crisis.
