Aer Lingus can forge ahead with plans to launch Manchester services to the US after the UK Civil Aviation Authority granted an airline operating licence to Aer Lingus (UK) Limited, part of the Aer Lingus Group.
Aer Lingus (UK) aims to launch flights to New York and Orlando on September 30, and to Barbados on October 20.
The statement from the CAA about the granting of the licence said: “This allows the company to undertake transatlantic scheduled passenger services between the United Kingdom and the United States.”
In March, the Irish carrier said it aimed to start Manchester services to New York and Orlando in July. However, in June it announced a delay because of “international borders opening later than expected”.
The US is working on a plan that would require nearly all foreign visitors to the country to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, according to reports earlier this month.
