Airbus targets 800 commercial aircraft deliveries in 2024

Airbus is on course to raise commercial aircraft deliveries from 735 in 2023 to 800 this year.

The forecast suggested adjusted earnings of up to €7 billion in 2024, assuming “no additional disruptions to the world economy”.

The projection came as the European manufacturer reported higher earnings from its commercial aircraft division of €4.8 billion against €4.6 billion in 2022.

The outcome reflected higher deliveries as net orders after cancellations rose to 2,094 from 820 year-on-year.

The company ended the year with an order book valued at €554 billion with a backlog of 8,598 commercial aircraft.

The total of 735 of aircraft compared to 661 delivered in 2022 comprised of 68 A220s, 571 A320 family aircraft, 32 A330s and 64 A350s.

Revenues generated by Airbus’ commercial aircraft activities increased 15%, mainly reflecting the higher number of deliveries.

Overall company revenues rose by 11% to to €65.4 billion.

Production of short-haul A220s is being ramped up towards a monthly rate of 14 aircraft in 2026.

Progress is being made well towards a previously announced rate of 75 A320 family aircraft per month in 2026, according to the company.

The first extended range A321XLR is due to enter service for an unnamed airline in the third quarter of the year.

In the wide body segment, the company is continuing towards a monthly rate of four A330s in 2024 and 10 A350s in 2026.

Chef executive Guillaume Faury said: “In 2023 we recorded strong order intake across all our businesses and we delivered on our commitments.

“This was a significant achievement given the complexity of the operating environment.

“We will continue to invest in our global industrial system, while progressing on our transformation and decarbonisation journey.”
