Emerald Airlines adds 15,000 seats to network

Aer Lingus franchise carrier Emerald Airlines has added more than 15,000 seats across its network from Belfast airport.

The airline operates flights to Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Glasgow.

Emerald Airlines said it plans to add more than 180,000 seats to its summer schedule as part of its “comprehensive plan” to offer more choice for travellers.

Conor McCarthy, executive chairman of Emerald Airlines, said: “We are developing and executing a comprehensive plan to ensure the continuation of reliable, cost-effective and sustainable air travel from Belfast City airport.”

The airline is also recruiting former Flybe staff after the domestic and short-haul airline ceased trading and entered administration in the early hours of Saturday morning.

McCarthy added: “We are also eager to recruit former Flybe crew members to join our team at Belfast and will be actively engaged in interviewing candidates over the next week.

“We know how distressing this situation must be for all concerned and our hearts go out to those who have lost their jobs over the weekend.”
