Heathrow issues flight disruption warning ahead of Queen’s funeral

Heathrow flights will be disrupted today (Wednesday) ahead of the Queen’s funeral.

The London hub said some services between 1.50pm and 3.40pm will be affected to ensure silence over central London as the ceremonial procession moves from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

“Passengers affected by this will be contacted by their airline,” Heathrow said.

The procession Queen’s coffin to St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Monday will impact local roads around Heathrow.

“Passengers travelling to the airport are advised to consider alternative routes, such as the Piccadilly or Elizabeth Lines or Heathrow Express,” the airport advised.

Further changes can be expected at the airport throughout the period of national mourning.

These include observing the National Moment of Reflection with a one-minute silence at 8pm on September 18 and showing the funeral on screens at the airport on Monday.

“Further changes to the airport operation will be communicated in full over the coming days,” Heathrow added.

Meanwhile, Gatwick expects roads and trains to be busier than usual on September 19 as people visit London to pay tribute to the Queen.

“Allow extra time and plan your journey to and from the airport in advance,” Gatwick said.
