Icelandair is operating an all-female flight in celebration of International Women’s Day today, keeping up a tradition of the airline dating back to 1999.
Flight FI528 departed Reykjavik at 7:40am and was due to land at Berlin Brandenburg Airport at approximately 12:10pm.
On International Women’s Day 1999, an all-female flight crew on an Icelandair international flight took off.
This year’s flight will once again include an all-female staff, cabin crew, pilot, co-pilot, and gate agents.
For the past 12 years, Iceland has topped the World Economic Forum’s annual index measuring gender equality.
Women represent 40% of Icelandair’s board of directors, 33% of its executive management team (with two new members starting shortly), 41% of other management positions and 40% of overall management positions.
Ten years ago, there was only one woman of five board directors and the executive management team was exclusively male.
