The NHS Covid Pass has been extended to cover 12 to 15-year-olds for international travel, the health secretary has confirmed.
Sajid Javid told the House of Commons the move would apply from today (Monday) and would allow “even more people to be able to prove their vaccine status for travel where it is needed”.
Details of how the pass will be issued were not immediately clear. However, the i newspaper reported last week that it was expected to be given in letter form initially.
The news will be welcomed by some families due to travel imminently who require proof of vaccination status to access particular areas or services overseas, and for those unsure about requirements for future travel.
However, most children in the age group will still currently be denied access to a number of countries, including Spain, which require visitors to be double-jabbed before entry.
Late last month, the government confirmed it would be offering second jabs to children aged 12-15, with the second dose offered 12 weeks after the first.
Those who are at higher risk of serious illness from contracting Covid will receive their second jab eight weeks after their first.
