Ryanair and budget rival Wizz Air both saw a year-on-year doubling in passenger numbers flown in September as recovery from the pandemic was maintained.
The Irish no-frills group carried 10.6 million passengers against 5.2 million in the same month last year, with an improved load factor up ten percentage points to 81%.
Ryanair operated more than 69,500 flights in September.
Last month’s figure compared with 9.3 million carryings in July and 11.1 million in August.
Wizz Air flew almost three million passenger last month against 1.5 million in September 2020.
The passenger load factor for the month rose by 13.8 percentage points to 78.4%.
However, the rolling annual total of carryings to September 30 was down 33% to 16.2 million.
The airline restarted three routes from Hungary’s second largest city of Debrecen to Tel-Aviv, Moscow, and Santorini as well as announcing other new routes to bring the network up to ten destinations.
