Lively Lima
In the coastal capital Lima, visitors can begin their adventure by exploring the city’s plazas, parks and museums in the Unesco‑listed Historic Centre.
Lima Cathedral and Santa Rosa de Lima monastery offer a glimpse into the past, while the lively districts of Barranco and Miraflores are easy to discover by bike, where world-class restaurants and bars are just the spot to try local dishes such as ceviche, lomo saltado, and Peru’s national cocktail, the pisco sour. Not far from the centre, kayaking and surfing can be found on the scenic Costa Verde.
Incredible Cusco
At 3,400m above sea level, Cusco is the gateway to the Andes mountains. It is home to churches and archaeological sites and is surrounded by verdant valleys and snowy peaks.
Machu Picchu is the crown jewel of Cusco, but with more time, sites such as Huayna Picchu, the Inca Trail and the rainbow mountains at Palccoyo promise equally breathtaking landscapes.
Into the Amazon
In the north, the vast region of Loreto is blanketed by rainforest. Its capital, Iquitos, sits on the Amazon River and stands out for its colourful markets and welcoming Indigenous people. The region has so much to offer, from learning about herbal medicine to birdwatching, trekking or cruising along the mighty Amazon River.
Volcanic lands
Arequipa is known as the White City due to its volcanic stone buildings made from the three surrounding peaks. Visitors can combine the city’s art, gastronomy and history with adrenalinepumping adventures such as rafting and mountain biking in Colca Canyon. It’s one of the deepest in the world and home to the rare Andean condor and ancient Indigenous settlements.
Desert adventures
Just four hours from Lima, Ica is home to towering sand dunes, blue oases and beautiful beaches. Outdoor lovers will be in their element at Huacachina Lagoon, where they can take a 4×4 ride in the sand dunes that surround it. Visitors can also venture west to where the sand meets the Pacific Ocean, spot wildlife on the Ballestas Islands or take a plane ride over the ancient Nazca Lines.
