Thrilling activities and magnificient unspoiled landscapes await in Saudi

Where lush green oases and volcanic plains meet spectacular sandstone canyons and towering mountains, an abundance of adventure awaits.

AlUla in Saudi Arabia is a destination boasting more than 200,000 years of history, with ancient tombs, rock inscriptions and heritage sites, including iconic Hegra.

But there’s plenty more to be explored beyond its historical past.

From scenic hikes and horse riding along nature-filled trails, to helicopter flights and buggy rides in the desert, there’s an enviable range of activities across AlUla for those with an adventurous spirit.

Explore on foot

Whether it’s weaving along palm-shaded desert paths or hiking through secluded valleys at night under a blanket of stars, AlUla’s network of walking trails are the perfect way to explore its diverse terrain.

The Ridge Walk is an easy-going mountain route, which rewards hikers with views of AlUla’s desert landscapes, while the Heritage Oasis Trail winds through the oasis alongside AlUla old town.

And exploring with a local storyteller, or rawi, is a great way to learn more about the region’s rich history.

For something even more breathtaking, recommend the AlUla Stairway. Climb the 45-metre ladder that’s suspended in the air before racing back down to the valley floor on a zipline – perfect for thrill seekers.

Fast-paced fun

Take to the skies in a helicopter for a unique view of AlUla – expect stunning desert vistas and unmatched sightings of the iconic Elephant Rock, a sandstone formation that has been shaped by erosion over millions of years.

Back on the ground, it’s also the perfect spot to watch the sunset, as the sky and rock turn red and pink, before thousands of stars light up the sky.

But during the day, one of the best ways to explore is in a vintage Land Rover or 4×4. Take a tour through Hegra, Dadan or the Sharaan Nature Reserve, which boasts impressive rock formations and vast valleys.

Experience more with a twin-centre stay
