Enjoy an eco-friendly stay at LUX* South Ari Atoll in the Maldives

A holiday in the Maldives is top of many people’s bucket-list trips, but with a growing desire to travel sustainably, more clients than ever are looking for an eco-conscious resort in the archipelago.

LUX* South Ari Atoll has a range of sustainable travel initiatives and educational programmes, including the world’s largest floating solar platforms in partnership with Swimsol GmbH; a zero-waste wedding concept which funds the education of a child at a local care home; and two campaigns: #CleanTheIsland and #CleanTheReef.

The aim to produce zero waste in every component of the guest experience drives the resort’s efforts, which are clearly being recognised. This year LUX* South Ari Atoll was the winner of the Best Sustainable Wedding Resort – South Asia 2022 by LUXlife Global, and winner of the Best Eco-friendly Resort 2022 in the South Asian Travel Awards.

Sky and sea

The initiatives have found favour with guests too, who love the fact that the bright Maldivian sunshine powers their villas and the island cruisers they use. Water from the island’s own plant has reduced plastic use by more than 800,000 bottles in just over a decade, and there’s a strong focus on cruelty-free and organic wellness practices and products across the resort, including the LUX* ME Spa.

In the resort’s waters, initiatives include a Turtle and Whale Shark Adoption scheme, coral planting workshops, and involvement in reef restoration. With such eco-conscious initiatives and care, this heavenly archipelago will surely continue to give people a little slice of paradise for centuries to come.

Keen on green

The Keen on Green dining concept supports a sustainable approach to food and carbon footprint reduction. The resort won LUXlife Global Vegan Award’s Best Vegan-Friendly Resort in the Indian Ocean 2022 – Maldives, and uses island-grown produce in its plant-based dishes and cooking classes.

Guests can learn more about ‘green’ cuisine by enjoying the dishes or learning how to grow their own herbs and cook healthy meals.
