Journey through Switzerland on an eco-friendly escape

Dramatic peaks, sparkling lakes and lush valleys are the hallmarks of scenic Switzerland, which is easily reached from the UK via Eurostar. The country is leading the way on sustainability, with eco-friendly transport, accommodation and restaurants, making it the ideal short-haul holiday spot for climate-conscious clients.

The Swiss Travel Pass offers the bestvalue and easiest way to travel around the country. The all-in-one pass – which is available in durations ranging from three to 15 days – covers travel on trains, boats and buses, including scenic journeys on Switzerland’s largest rail network, SBB.

That means a visit to the cobbled streets of Bern can easily be combined with hiking across glaciers in Valais, a cruise on Lake Lucerne or a cycling trip in the Swiss Alps.

The Swiss Travel Pass also includes admission to more than 500 museums, and unlimited public transport in over 90 towns and cities, making exploring cultural and natural wonders even simpler.

Switzerland’s commitment to sustainability is visible throughout the country, including in the picturesque, car-free ski resort of Zermatt. The Bernina Express train, which snakes through dramatic gorges and Alpine landscapes, also runs on 100% hydroelectric power.

For wine lovers, a new Grape Escape route links a collection of castles, vineyards and cellars easily accessed with public transport, offering overnight stays and tasting experiences – ideal for a locally focused, sustainable stay in Switzerland.

Take a scenic boat trip around the shores of Lake Zurich, stopping at the famous Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory in Kilchberg, or hop on a paddle steamer to admire the beautiful gardens and Old Town in Rapperswil. In the summer months, you can cool off at a badi (outdoor swimming pool) on the lake.

Day 3

Venture farther afield to explore the great outdoors at Uetliberg mountain, where hiking and cycling trails take in sweeping views of Zurich and the Alps.

Alternatively, take a train to Interlaken, Switzerland’s adventure capital, for the chance to try paragliding, rafting or mountain biking.
