David Winterton leaves Emerald Cruises amid business restructure

David Winterton has stepped down from his position as brand & marketing director of Emerald Cruises after nine years in the role.

The announcement comes as Scenic Group has confirmed the company is moving the digital hubs for both Scenic and Emerald Cruises and the content creation hub for Emerald Cruises, which is currently based in Manchester, to the company’s head office in Sydney.

Winterton said it was an “honour” to have seen Emerald Cruises grow in the time he was there but has chosen to leave amid the business restructure and is looking to explore new opportunities.

He has worked in travel for more than 30 years, beginning his career as commercial manager at The Co-operative Travel, before holding positions at Tui and Sykes Cottages.

“I have had nine amazing years working for Scenic Group, firstly launching the Emerald brand in the UK and more recently helping build the brand globally,” he said.

“Highlights include launching the yacht cruising product and also adding their 9th river ship, sailing the Mekong River.

“With the announcement that the marketing hubs for the two brands are moving to one central place – Sydney – I’ve taken the opportunity to depart Scenic Group and will now look to explore new opportunities.

“I thank Scenic Group for giving me so much opportunity in the 9 years I worked for them and wish the Emerald brand much success in the future.”

Glen Moroney, chairman and founder of Scenic Group said: “The decision to return the functions to Australia is a result of the business’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and sales focus to ensure its brands maintain their market leading positions in the UK travel industry.

“Roles that worked within these hubs in the Manchester office have entered into a consultation process.”
