Evacuation orders have been issued in the Athens region as wildfires continue to spread.
Yesterday (July 19), the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office updated its Greek website page to announce evacuation orders and a high alert warning has been issued in the capital.
It states: “Forest fires often occur during the summer months across Greece due to the dry/hot weather.
“There are currently (July 19) wildfires to the north of Athens. As of 9pm (Athens time) evacuation orders had issued for Ntrafi, Dioni, Dasamari, and Anthousa, and instructions to remain on high alert issued for Penteli, Ntaou Pentelis, and Kallitexnoupolia.”
Forest fires have been raging across parts of mainland Europe, prompting the FCDO to issue cautions to travellers visiting the areas.
The FCDO has this week updated its Portugal, Spain, France and Slovenia website pages to warn of “exceptionally high temperatures” leading to potential wildfires.
