Number of new travel jobs falls by 40%, statistics show

The number of new travel jobs created in June fell by 40% on the month before, according to the latest statistics from C&M Travel Recruitment.

June’s vacancies figure was 27% down on the same month in 2022, while being 25% up on June 2021, 28% down from June 2019 and 29% down from June 2018.

However, the number of candidates placed in new jobs has risen for the second consecutive month.

C&M Travel Recruitment managing director Barbara Kolosinska (pictured) said: “It’s always great to see a rise in the number of candidates being placed in new travel roles – and while activity levels are down from last year, this allows us to spend more time focusing on each role and finding the perfect candidate for each company.”

June saw an 11% dip in the number of new candidates searching for travel jobs compared with May. The June figure was down by 1% on June last year, up by 11% on June 2021, up by 21% on June 2019 and up by 16 per cent on June 2018.

Reflecting on June’s statistics, Kolosinska said: “Things have now reduced to a more manageable level from 2022, and with salaries continuing to rise, there are many, many fantastic opportunities out there for quality applicants.

“With summer now in full flow, we expect activity to remain around this level until everything picks up in September – leaving an excellent gap in the market for any travel company in the position to start their recruitment drive earlier than their competitors.”
