CAA extends deadline for issuing RCNs beyond April 30

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed refund credit notes (RCNs) for Atol-protected flight-inclusive packages can be issued beyond April 30.

No new issuing deadline will be given “until further notice” while the impact of the pandemic continues – but the expiry deadline of newly-issued RCNs has been pushed back a year to September 30, 2022.

The previous expiry deadline for newly-issued RCNs was September 30, 2021.

In a statement, the CAA said: “Atol protection for refund credit notes has been extended until September 30, 2022.

“Travel companies can now continue to offer Atol-protected RCNs to their customers until further notice (up to September 30, 2022).

“Consumers remain entitled to a cash refund if their holiday is cancelled.”

The CAA posted further information on its website.

Abta last week extended the deadline for issuing RCNs for non-flight packages until May 31 but retained the January 31, 2022, expiry date.
