Condor Ferries increases capacity for summer 2023 to meet demand

Channel Islands operator Condor Ferries is increasing the capacity of its 2023 schedule to meet demand.

The operator credits a surge in calls for self-drive trips combined with widespread airport disruption for the increase in bookings it has seen over the summer.

During its peak travel period from July to mid-September, the line said it carried 25% more cars to the Channel Islands on its service from Poole compared to the equivalent months in 2019.

It had already increased capacity for its summer 2022 schedule but has added additional services to its timetable for next year in response to the demand, which it expects to be greater next year as Guernsey is set to hold the biannual International Island Games, bringing competitors and spectators to the destination.

The new 2023 timetable is available from 9am on October 25.

Chief executive of Condor Ferries John Napton said: “This year, we extended the 2019 schedule to offer more direct and weekend sailings which has contributed to a successful summer season.

“This is especially good news for the Channel Islands’ tourism and hospitality industries helping them to bounce back after the pandemic.”

He went on to say the passenger numbers seen in 2022 along with travel trends for next year make him “very optimistic” for 2023.

“Increasing capacity during peak times ensures we can meet demand and offer passengers a lot of sailings,” he continued.

“After a summer of airport chaos, flight cancellations and rising travel costs, most people seek the convenience and value ferry holidays offer.

“They are also looking for destinations that are easy to reach and not too far from home; the Channel Islands offer all this, warmer weather and so much more.”

He added: “We advise passengers to book 2023 sailings early to secure the crossings that best suit their plans.”
