Kuoni is looking to expand its product range in Portugal as short-haul destinations continue to dominate the operator’s top sellers list.
The operator bolstered its short-haul programme during the pandemic when Covid restrictions forced most long-haul destinations off sale.
Product director Claire Ross told Travel Weekly’s Future of Travel Spring Forum short-haul destinations were continuing to feature in the operator’s top-sellers list, which pre-Covid would have been dominated by long-haul favourites.
“We would not usually have Greece and Italy at the top of our top sellers list,” she said, attributing the continued popularity of Kuoni’s short-haul range with the operator’s service levels.
She added: “We have got product managers in Portugal looking at new destinations. We have quite a few things coming down the line this year.”
The operator features Portugal and Madeira in its short-haul programme but does not currently feature regions such as the Azores archipelago of volcanic islands.
The move follows the decision during Covid to review Kuoni’s destination mix. “We had to look at what our strategy was going to be [during Covid]. Short-haul was an opportunity to offer more experiences,” said Claire, adding: “We have seen a strong response to expansion of our European programme.”
