New Turkish tourism boss pledges support for trade

The Turkish Tourism Board has appointed a new UK & Ireland director.

Mustafa Ozkaya, based at the Turkish Office of Culture and Information in London, will be responsible for leading all tourism promotional activities for the country.

His role includes overseeing travel industry engagement, marketing and communications, media buying and governmental liaison.

The previous UK & Ireland director was Arzu Kahraman Yilmaz.

Ozkaya was previously director of the programme department at broadcaster Al Jazeera and deputy director general of Turkish news agency Anadolu.

His appointment comes ahead of the Abta Travel Convention being held in Bodrum on October 30-November 2.

Ozkaya said: “The UK and Ireland is a market of enormous strategic importance to Turkey, with visitor numbers growing rapidly every year.

“Our travel industry partners are an integral part of this success story, creating flight and holiday programmes from points across the UK and Ireland; engaging and supporting them will be an early priority for me.”
