Swan Hellenic promotes Mario Bounas to UK and Ireland GM

Swan Hellenic has promoted vice-president of global marketing Mario Bounas to UK and Ireland general manager.

The resurrected line said Bounas (pictured) had played “a key role” in branding the company globally since it relaunched in July 2020.

Patrizia Iantorno has been named as vice president of global marketing after two periods at MSC Cruises plus Nestle, Purina Petcare and full-service advertising agency Now Available Africa.

Bounas will report into Alfredo Spadon, Swan Hellenic’s senior vice-president of global sales and marketing, in his new role.

Spadon said: “No one understands our unique brand attributes and values better [than Bounas]. He’s the ideal person to grow Swan Hellenic’s distinctive presence in these markets [UK and Ireland], which are, of course, historically as well as strategically important for our company.”

Bounas’ CV also includes stints at Russian river cruise line Vodohod and Royal Caribbean International in a career spanning nearly 20 years.

His promotion comes days after UK sales director Tom Dumbrell rejoined escorted touring and cruise specialist Tauck.

Bounas confirmed Swan was recruiting to fill Dumbrell’s former role.

He said: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for his efforts in helping re-establish the brand in the UK over the last two  years, and wish him every success in his new role.”

Bounas said he felt honoured to be leading the “iconic British heritage brand” into “a new chapter in the UK and Irish markets”.

“I look forward to working closely with our partners to support them in their business,” he added.

The line launched second ice-class ship – SH Vega – this summer, with an expedition cruise in the Arctic.

Both Vega and maiden vessel SH Minerva will be joined by SH Diana next year once it is built by Helsinki Shipyard.
