Wonky Sheep to run escorted tour to Argentina

A Welsh agency has launched its first escorted tour – a trip to Argentina which will include being in Patagonia on St David’s Day.

Cardiff-based Wonky Sheep Travel is primarily involved in sport and business travel but turned its attention to the leisure market last year.

The Patagonian region in Argentina is famous for its Welsh speakers, thanks to migration there by Welsh people during the 19th century.

Owner Dave Dulin said the escorted tour was created following demand from friends.

“If there’s enough interest in something, then we’ll look at doing it,” he said.

“This company was born out of friends asking me to arrange stag dos, so that was our first market.

“Then the football travel came from friends asking for trips to be put on and it’s currently our biggest market with the Official Wales Fan Travel, Scotland Fan Travel and, this season, Newcastle in the Champions League being added, with other sports coming soon.

“Now this Argentina trip has come about from friends saying they wanted to be in the Welsh-speaking part of Patagonia on St David’s Day and the interest has grown so we’re doing it.”

The two-week trip visits Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls and Mendoza – with holidaymakers being in Patagonia for March 1, 2025. It costs from £3,495 including flights.

Dulin said other escorted tours are also being planned to cater for clients’ bucket lists.

“While Argentina has a Welsh focus, we want to draw travellers from all parts of the UK to join us on big trips like this or to somewhere like Japan or less-ventured locations,” he said.

“We’re also looking at European tours and city breaks with ‘must-do’ elements which you may not ordinarily put together as an escorted tour.

“It’s about doing some things differently.”

Wonky Sheep is also open to working with other agents on upcoming tours.
