Spain was the top destination for accommodation bookings recorded in the UK by Hotelbeds in the past year.
The US was the second favourite destination followed by Greece, Italy and Portugal, according to the bed bank in a trading update at World Travel Market at London’s ExCel.
Turkey, France and Morocco were the destinations that suffered the greatest decreases compared to the previous year while the fastest growing destinations for UK travellers were Spain, the US, Portugal, United Arab Emirates and Mexico.
Growth from the UK in 2015-16 helped the former Tui-owned B2B bed bank maintain its track record for outperforming the local market, which overall experienced a moderate decrease.
Group managing director Carlos Muñoz said: “Despite fierce competition in a market that shrunk this year, it gives me great pleasure to confirm that once again we have both grown significantly and outperformed in our most important outbound market.
“First of all I´d like to thank our partners in the market for their faith, loyalty and partnership this last year to make this happen.
“Second of all I´d like to thank the UK team for their tireless hard work in providing best in class service delivery.
“In 2017 we´ll be even more committed to our investment in cost-effective technology that generates additional revenues for our partners.”
